Giving Back Never Looked So WONDERFUL!

High School Wonder Girls Packed and Distributed Over 4,000 Pounds of Food Donated by Goya Foods at the People to People Food Pantry

It certainly was a WONDERFUL day at the People to People Food Pantry in Rockland County for Wonder Girls’ monthly Volunteer Day! A group of volunteers from Wonder Girls, an after-school program for high school girls with a mission to build confidence, leadership, community, and business skills, packed bags filled with Goya products to feed thousands of Rockland County families in need as part of Wonder Girls’ monthly Volunteer Day.

A key component of the Wonder Girls program is to build community and instill a sense of social responsibility and the meaning behind giving back to those in need. “When you give back to someone less fortunate than you, you sometimes discover what it really means to make an impact on their lives, and in turn, often feel a sense of confidence and goodness, knowing you’ve helped someone other than yourself,” said Natalie Maniscalco and Irene Zervoudis, Founders of Wonder Girls.

Through the program’s volunteer days, where they partner with different local organizations each month throughout Rockland and Bergen Counties, the Wonder Girls gain hands-on-experience, learn about the mission of each organization, and the various careers in the non-profit sector.

“It’s been a challenging year, and it’s going to continue to be challenging for a little bit, but the good news is, there are wonderful people, like Wonder Girls and Goya, who really want to help their neighbors in need,” said Diane Serratore, Executive Director of People to People. “And we can’t do this without you all.”

Goya’s generous donation of over 4,000 pounds of food was part of Goya’s global #GoyaGives initiative and the company’s year-long 85th-anniversary celebration.

“There’s nothing more than you can give than of yourself,” said Rafael Toro, Director of Public Relations of Goya Foods to the Wonder Girls group. “I admire everything that you do, and please keep it up!”
